ENCOD Bulletin September 2007
Dear friends,
Herewith I send you the ENCOD Bulletin for September.
In the coming month, we will launch a massive appeal to people supporting the reform of drug legislation worldwide to collaborate with us in the organisation of an event in Vienna in March 2008, when the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs meets to review the results of the global strategy to eliminate or significantly reduce the global drugs problem. The purpose of the event would be to find the reasons why drug prohibition is continued in spite of the many evidences that prove it to be a total failure, as well as to show the beneficial perspectives (economic, ecological, political) that lie in a change towards a reasonable drug policy. Anyone who wishes to participate actively in this campaign, please ask me and I can add you to the e-mail list of the Vienna working group.
Also in September, the text of a new ENCOD-flyer on the Cannabis Social Clubs proposal will be translated and printed. These flyers can be used by local groups to promote the establishment of a Cannabis Social Club in their area, as part of the CSC campaign.
Anyone who wishes to participate actively in this campaign, please ask me and I can add you to the e-mail list of the CSC working group.
Besides, ENCOD will participate in the coming events this month:
4 September: Action Meeting in Rotterdam, Netherlands
http://www.encod.org/info/SEPTEMBER-04-ACTION-MEETING-IN.html
15 September: Conference Legalise Cannabis Alliance, Stoke On Trent, UK
http://www.encod.org/info/SEPTEMBER-15-LCA-CONFERENCE-STOKE.html
We are in need of 10.000 euros to continue our work in 2007 in decent conditions. Those members who can afford an extra donation for this year, this is highly appreciated (see the bank account below the bulletin).
Others could consider organising a fundraising activity to support the work for drug policy reform both within your own organisation and in ENCOD. People can gather in small groups, for a meal, some kind of game or social activity that can bring in some euros.
We have money boxes available that you can use for this event. Please let me know if you need any. If you want any ideas on how to organise these events, please let us know as well.
People in the UK and Spain have already chosen Saturday 29 September, in occasion of the fact that on 28 September, it is the 79th anniversary of the Geneva Convention where cannabis was banned. But it is not necessary to stick to this date.
Best wishes,
Joep
