Once again the news media is airing negative sensational stories about methadone and ignoring the thousands of positive ones. The vastbmajority of patients in the nation’s methadone treatment programs are not criminals. The National Alliance of Methadone Advocates (NAMA) urges you to appreciate that the great majority of patients receive their methadone from licensed accredited programs, are responsible in handling their medication, compliant with their treatment plans (including abstinence from illicit substances) and live lives that are virtually indistinguishable from your own.

The Australian Injecting and Illicit Drug Users League (AIVL), the national organisation representing people who use or have used illicit drugs is shocked and appalled by the unexpected announcement today by Prime Minister Howard that a re-elected Coalition Government would take control of the welfare payments of people convicted of offences involving illicit drugs.

6) European DU excluded from EU Civil Society Forum On Drugs (please support)

Dear Friends,



European INPUD members over the past two years participated in the process for the involvement of civil society in EU drugs policies, organized by the EU Commission. The end of this process - and the beginning of the involvement - is the organization of the first European Civil Society Forum On Drugs in December 2007.



Despite our constant and constructive participation in the preparation of this civil society involvement in EU drugs policies, the European Commission didn't take into account INPUD's application for membership in the European Civil Society Forum On Drugs.
